We work in partnership with Bolton Council,Christian Churches, Bolton Council of Mosques, Bolton Hindu Forum and various groups from the voluntary and statutory sectors.
The Interfaith Council meets to discuss and resolve any issues that arise in the community. It also has a programme of ongoing events and activities in order to promote greater awareness, understanding and trust between different faith communities in Bolton. |
Statement from the Bolton Interfaith Council ENGLISH DEFENCE LEAGUE IN BOLTONThe proposed assembly or march in Bolton by the English Defence League (EDL)is not welcomed by Bolton Interfaith Council. Bolton Interfaith Council works in partnership with all faith and community groups committed to building a strong and cohesive community. Members of the Council have noted the actions of the English Defence League in other towns and cities and judge that such a protest by the EDL in Bolton will work against cohesion and harmony in our community. We support the action of the Bolton Council in writing to the Home Secretary urging him to ban the event on public safety grounds. We are also working together with Bolton Faith Leaders' Forum, the Council and Police on a community strategy that will enable a positive response for the people of Bolton should the event take place.
