Statement from Member of Parliament
"The Interfaith Council plays a very important role in bringing members of all the faith communities in Bolton together to exchange views, and it helps us to understand our different religions and cultures. It is part of the 'glue' (called by the Government 'community cohesion') that holds our wider community together. I have attended several events and supported its activities whenever I could. I helped to launch the 'youth wing', which I am told is working well now. The last event I attended discussed the life and time of Mahatma Gandhi and raised the question as to whether his values are relevant or not today. Ignorance breeds suspicion and contempt; knowledge provides tolerance and understanding. I wish the Interfaith Council well in its future work."
